Fistful of grains has strength to bond thousands of families.

Pune: VHP, Pune Mahanagar recently witnessed a simple gesture of donating a fistful of grains daily has a great strength to bridge the gaps between different sections of the society. A revived – ‘Mushti Dhanya’ program received tremendous response from society. The scheme gained from both the fronts, the need of the deprived student was fulfilled and large numbers of families were also attached to the VHP activities. All the donors expressed that great satisfaction was received. Young children from many houses enthusiastically took initiative & daily deposited grains in the bags. Few of them now wish to celebrate their birthdays at this hostel.

Dhanya YojnaThe children from tribal & backward areas are deprived of the basic educational facilities. When a good opportunity is availed to these children, they are able to change individual as well as the community. One such example is India’s star athlete & commonwealth games medalist – Kavita Raut who is an ex-student of Harsul Vasatigruha. Presently, Kavita is a role model for the children from this area. Numbers of children are dedicatedly pursuing their goals in sports & higher education.

To support these dreams VHP, W. Maharashtra Prant runs 11 hostels for these children in tribal & backward section of Maharashtra. More than 500 children are staying in these hostels.

VHP Pune Mahanagar had decided to look after the Rajgurunagar Hostel where currently 70 children are staying. Rather than opting for large donations from few donors, the Mahanagar team decided to collect small but regular donations from large number of households. So a Mushti Dhanya Yojna was re-launched. VHP Karyakarta’s connected large number of households and requested them to keep aside a fistful of Rice / Wheat / Dal, daily in the month of Shravan, which volunteers would collect after a month.

The scheme was highly appreciated and accepted in society. Nearly 40 bags of food grains (Rice / Wheat / Dal) were amassed in the Pune VHP office. Apart from this many donors opted for an adopting a child (i.e. donating amount equals to yearly expenses of that child) for a year while few decided to shoulder the responsibility of an entire hostel’s expenses for a single day. Few donors donated study material, cupboards, etc.

On 18th September 2011, this collected material was handed over to the Shri Umeshji Joshi, Vice President, VHP, W. Maharashtra Prant. Shri Bhargavrao Sarpotdar, Kshetriya Sampark Mantri & Sanjayrao Kulkarni, Seva Vibhag Pramukh graced the occasion.

The program was lead by Bhaskar Chillal, Mantri, VHP Pune, Manohar Oke Sah-Mantri, VHP Pune and Shahikant Kulkarni, Karyalaya Mantri. They were supported by Vishnu Patwardhan, Mihir Prabhudesai, Nilesh Bhise, Degvekar and all the volunteers of VHP.
