The Hindu presence in the UK accounts for about 12 lakh. Now the number of displaced Hindus from Sri Lanka is also here in a considerable number. VHP-U.K. is a registered organization. It started working in 1972. It is recognized by the British Government as a representative body of Hindus. It has 12 chapters. Four chapters have their own temples, office buildings, and centres.
Main Activities of VHP-UK-
Organises celebration of various Hindu festivals like Janmashtami, Raama Navami, Navaratri, Diwali, etc.. The stress is on participation by families rather than individuals.
Organizes Bal Shibirs (Camps for Kids and Youngsters)
Annual Welcome Ceremonies for students of Universities.
Cooperation with the National Hindu Students Forum.
1989 – Virat Hindu Conference at Milton Keynes with the participation of 300 Hindu institutions and organizations of various profiles. 70,000 people participated.
Big movement protesting against the closure of Bhakti Vedanta Manor (ISKCON Temple). The government-sponsored closure was finally vacated and the temple got opened.
Marked the centenary year of the famous Chicago speech of Swami Vivekananda by organizing programmes and seminars in various cities and towns.
Organized Sikh exhibition to mark the Tricentenary Year of the Khalsa movement.
Organized grand Raksha Bandhan celebration in association with other organizations in the Millennium Dome on August 15, 2000.
Hosted the UK leg of Vishwa Dharma Prasar Yatra.
2001 – Conference of Hindu Organizations.
Brought out the book “Explaining Hindu Dharma – A Teacher’s Guide” that is recognized by the British Government as a textbook to teach Hindu Dharma in schools.
